Let's play pretend

Let’s pretend the last eight months didn’t happen,

We could pretend the year just started

We have the next twelve months to work it,

Maybe we could avoid meeting?

Let’s pretend that we remember everything

that we are struggling to pretend never happened

Would it make it easier to avoid each other?

Or just that much harder?

Let’s pretend that we are living today again,

August 8^th 2012 and everything happened different

Would it really be making sense if I posted this?

Or would I call it meaningless yet still post?

Let’s pretend that we aren’t pretending

That everything I want to forget is forgotten,

That all the nightmares that keep me awake

Are buried back in Pandora’s Box

That all our weaknesses are our strengths

And everything we touch turns to gold.

Let’s play pretend and keep pretending

If the illusion is sweeter than reality,

Why must we endure the bitterness of it?

Pretend is the only way I know how to cope

If you won’t pretend with me, then please go

Let’s play pretend

And enjoy the alternate life that we have here

Let’s not try to face reality or pain

Embrace the joy and laughter

And if worst comes to worst

And bad things happen,

We could burrow deeper in the covers

And keep playing pretend
